What the CSV validator checks

A product import that fails halfway, or quietly creates broken products, usually comes down to a few problems in the CSV file. The validator reads a Shopify or WooCommerce product CSV, works out which format it is, and lists every error and warning by row and column, with a plain-language fix for each one.

It checks for missing required columns, prices that aren't valid numbers or are negative, sale prices higher than regular prices, variant rows that don't belong to a product, image links that aren't proper web addresses, and duplicate handles or SKUs. Errors are problems that will usually stop an import or create the wrong product. Warnings are worth a look but may be intentional.

Your file stays on your device

The file is read and checked in your browser. It is never uploaded to Findora's server, so you can safely check files that contain your own prices and supplier details. Files up to 20 MB are supported.

How to use it

Choose a CSV file exported from Shopify or WooCommerce, or one you've prepared for import. The validator detects the format from the column names; if it can't tell, you can choose the format yourself. Fix the errors in your spreadsheet, save the file as CSV again and check it once more until no errors remain.

For Shopify, each product is identified by its Handle column, and variant rows repeat the handle with their own options and prices. For WooCommerce, variations point to their parent product in the Parent column. The validator follows the same rules, so it can tell you exactly which row is broken.

Why it matters

Shopify and WooCommerce often report import errors only after the import has run, sometimes with vague messages. Checking the file first saves you from cleaning up half-imported products, missing images or variants that ended up as separate products. If you need an import file in the first place, Findora can export a whole store's products as a ready-made Shopify or WooCommerce import CSV.

Frequently asked questions

Is my CSV file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and checked in your browser and never leaves your device.

Which formats are supported?

Shopify's product import CSV and WooCommerce's product CSV (the format used by WooCommerce → Products → Import and Export). The format is detected from the column names, or you can choose it.

What's the difference between an error and a warning?

An error will usually stop the import or create the wrong product, such as a missing required column or a price that isn't a number. A warning is worth checking but may be intentional, such as a product without images.

Why does it say a variant row has no product?

In Shopify files, a variant row must use the handle of a product that appears earlier in the file. In WooCommerce files, a variation's Parent must match the SKU or ID of a variable product in the file. Check for typos in the handle or parent value.

Does the validator use credits?

No. You need to be signed in to see the full report, but the validator never uses credits.
