What the profit calculator works out

Enter what a product costs you and what you sell it for, and the calculator shows your profit on each sale, your profit margin and your markup. It includes the costs that are easy to forget: shipping, what you spend on ads for each sale, the payment provider's percentage fee and any other cost per order, such as packaging or an app fee.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to our server, and the numbers update as you type.

How the numbers are calculated

The payment fee is the selling price multiplied by the fee percentage. Your total cost per sale is the product cost plus shipping, ad cost per sale, the payment fee and other costs. Profit is the selling price minus that total cost.

Margin is profit divided by the selling price: the share of each sale you keep. Markup is the selling price minus the product cost, divided by the product cost: how much you've added on top of what the product costs you. A product that costs 10 and sells for 25 has a markup of 150%, but once shipping, ads and fees are included its margin can be much lower. The calculator shows both so you don't confuse them.

How to use it

Fill in the product cost and selling price, then add the other costs you know. Leave a field empty if it doesn't apply. Try different selling prices or ad costs to see how far you can go before a product stops being profitable. If the profit turns negative, the calculator shows how much you lose on each sale.

Why it matters

In dropshipping, ad costs and fees can quietly take most of a sale. A product with a healthy markup can still lose money once you pay to advertise it. Checking the real profit per sale before you add a product to your store, or before you raise an ad budget, is one of the simplest ways to avoid running a busy store that doesn't make money. When you're researching products to sell, Findora can export a whole store's product list with prices, so you can compare costs across many products in a spreadsheet.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between margin and markup?

Margin is profit divided by the selling price. Markup is the selling price minus the product cost, divided by the product cost. A product bought for 10 and sold for 20 has a 100% markup, and before any other costs a 50% margin.

What should I enter as ad cost per sale?

What you spend on advertising for each order, sometimes called cost per acquisition. If you spent 300 on ads and got 20 sales, your ad cost per sale is 15.

Which payment fee percentage should I use?

Use the percentage your payment provider charges you. It depends on the provider, your country and your plan, so check your provider's pricing page. Fixed per-order fees can go under other costs.

Is my data saved or sent anywhere?

No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to Findora's server.

Does the calculator use credits?

No. You need to be signed in to see the results, but the calculator never uses credits.
